Fudge Sauce

This sauce is so good drizzled over ice cream.  Layered in cakes.  Stirring into milk.  Added to milk shakes. Or, and I not saying I do this, eaten from a spoon!

Fudge Sauce

  • 1 – 12 oz. can evaporated milk
  • 1 & 2/3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa, sifted
  • pinch salt
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter

Whisk together; evaporated milk, sugar, salt and sifted cocoa in a sauce pan.  Bring to a boil, stirring/whisking to keep from sticking, and cook until thickened about 5 minutes of boiling.  Watch out – it can boil over!  Remove from heat and add vanilla and butter, stirring until melted.
