Cara Cara Orange Sorbet

We love citrus and frozen desserts.  This is the best of both worlds!  It’s really easy to make without the aid of an ice cream machine.  It is a frozen burst of sunshine!

Cara Cara Orange Sorbet

  • 1 cup Sunkist Cara Cara Orange juice, 6 to 8 oranges
  • peel of 2 Sunkist Cara Cara Oranges, no white part
  • 1 Tablespoon Sunkist Lemon juice, more if desisred
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar

Peel the skin, not getting any white, from 2 oranges.  Place peeling, sugar and water in a saucepan. Stir to dissolve sugar and bring boil.  Lower heat to a simmer while you squeeze oranges.

Remove simple syrup from heat, remove peeling and discard. Add juice from oranges and 1 Tablespoon lemon juice. Taste and add 1 more Tablespoon of lemon juice if too sweet.

Pour into a freezer safe container.  I used my metal lasagna pan. Put in freezer until just frozen, about 1 hour, depending on size of pan used.  Scrape frozen juice with fork, fluffing it. Lightly smooth down. You can eat it now or freeze again to make it a little harder.   Put back in freezer for at least another 1 hour or until hard.

Remove pan from freezer and scoop out a burst of sunshine!  Enjoy!
