BBQ Sauerkraut and Italian Sausage Bake

I have to admit, I am not a fan of sauerkraut.  Never have been and would shun the mere thought or mention of it.  I’ve changed my mind about it now..as long as it is Sweet and Spicy BBQ Sauerkraut, I’m on it!  I added Kyvan’s Sweet BBQ Sauce to make this fantastic kraut dish.  A link for Kyvan Giveaway is below.

BBQ Sauerkraut and Italian Sausage Bake
ingredients

  • 4 to 6 Turkey Italian Sausage, frozen or fresh
  • 2 lbs. sauerkraut, rinsed and squeezed dry
  • 1 – 10 oz. can Rotel, Mild Tomatoes and Green Chilies, drained
  • or 14 oz. diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup Kyvan’s Sweet BBQ Sauce

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Spray 11×7 pan.  Put drained and squeezed sauerkraut, drained Rotel or tomatoes, Kyvan’s Sweet BBQ Sauce and brown sugar in pan.  Mix well.  Top with Italian sausage with frozen, cover with foil and cook 1 hour 30 minutes, removing foil after and 30 minutes.  If using fresh Italian Sausage .. Cook BBQ Sauerkraut 1 hour, then top with Italian Sausage and cook for 30 minutes until brown and no longer pink inside with internal temperature of 145 degrees F.
